Lisa has been practicing the Afro-Brazilian artform of Capoeira for twenty three years. She was the first woman in her academy to become a teacher. She has trained Capoeira in Brazil, Bolivia, Canada, Martinique, San Martin, Chicago, Miami, Texas, and throughout New England. Lisa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, and connects Capoeira's history of resistance to the struggle for equality in modern times. She is the resident dance teacher at one of New Haven's public schools.
"Lisa embodies both artistic skill and the beliefs of the dances she teaches. This combines both technical movements and a deeper purpose behind those movements. She truly inspires and empowers her students in those ways." -Dr. Nicholas Perrone, Principal, Edgewood Magnet School, New Haven CT.
