Sharmont Influence Little The workshop includes an introduction to spoken word poetry, based on students' grade and skill levels, and incorporates social skills, coping skills and conflict resolution. Led by Austin Dailey, participants will learn basic hip hop freestyle skills, party moves, break dancing, and more. This workshop emphasizes movement for fun and health, requiring no prior dance experience. Students learn the history and core elements of Hip Hop, practice basic dance moves, and experience the joy of movement and self-expression. Students explore hand techniques, character development, and puppet manipulation. Each participant receives a finger puppet to continue practicing. Explore the world through art, inspired by prehistoric cultures. Students will engage in drawing, painting, and sculpture while reflecting on their environment and creative expression. Students explore Japanese culture through dynamic Taiko drumming, folk songs, and dance. A high-energy, multicultural experience. Take an ecological journey through the Amazon and African forests, exploring folktales that teach the importance of our natural world with vibrant characters and sound effects. Inspired by "The Noisy Paint Box", students explore Kandinsky's abstract art and how sound can be expressed visually through color, line, and shape. In this workshop or residency, students will explore Kathak, the art of storytelling through dance. They will learn Kathak's technical footwork, spins, and cross rhythms. Kathak combines intense footwork, spins, and improvisation to tell stories through dance. Students will watch a performance, participate in a folk dance, and engage in a Q&A to learn about India's culture. Participants explore the profound symbolic meaning of drums across cultures and learn hand and finger techniques to create rhythmic dialogue. The workshop focuses on understanding the beat, rhythm, and tonal sounds of drums. Bring curriculum to life with hands-on learning, including acting out concepts from compost to mythology. From leprechauns to Irish heroines, this engaging storytelling program brings Irish myths and history to life. With costumes, artifacts, and humor, Monica Peterson delights audiences of all ages with Irish tales. Anne Pasquale's Living History Programs Anne brings to life the stories of America's female immigrants through songs, tales, and personas, highlighting cultural diversity and common heritage across Liberty's crown. This residency explores the environmental impact of artificial light at night through visual arts. Students create artwork related to light pollution, explore storytelling, and present their findings. A performance blending music, math, and culture with influences from Harry Belafonte, Bob Marley, Calypso & Reggae. Includes audience participation and workshops teaching the making of Steel Drum instruments. Dance China NY/New York Chinese Cultural Center This program introduces beloved ancient Chinese folk art. The selection of repertoires includes excerpts from Peking Opera, Lion dance, kung fu, as well as the Red Ribbon Dance. Anne Pasquale's Living History Programs A fun, interactive journey for young readers, featuring tales of historical figures like Johnny Appleseed and the Statue of Liberty, with sing-alongs and participatory storytelling.
