Teaching Artist Legacy Statement

In her creative and fully customized workshops and residencies, Doe Boyle expertly engages the mind, imagination, and heart of every young learner.

Doe is the author of an array of children's books in poetry and prose, an editor of children's fiction and adult nonfiction, and a teaching artist in K-12 classrooms. Her focus is on personal narrative, poetry, and expository writing. She engages students' higher-order thinking skills and multiple intelligences; she encourages democratic practice and inquiry-based learning. In 2023 the CT Office of the Arts awarded Doe a generous fellowship for her artistic excellence in the literary arts.

Doe regularly engages with students who are developing their self-descriptive skills and perspectives through poetry, memoir, and personal narrative. Her work with students is designed to increase self-awareness, develop positive social engagement skills, encourage community activism, and anchor each student's sense of self in a sturdy framework of character traits, personal strengths, and emotional values.
