Teaching Artist Legacy Statement

Mexican folkloric dance is an important part my heritage and cultural identity. I present a variety of Mexican folkloric dance forms from different regions of Mexico. I believe that sharing this rich culture with students builds cultural understanding and connections. My performances showcase the dresses of the different regions of Mexico. Performances can be specific celebrations or holidays in a particular month, i.e. Day of the Dead (October, November), Cinco de Mayo (May), and Mexican Independence (September). I explain the cultural and historical context of the music and dance styles. I work with teachers to align with their lesson plans.

Testimonials

"Tere Luna did a great job at our school! She explained the different types of clothing she wore and took time to answer questions from students. She used many volunteers and the whole assembly of children and teachers get up and dance. It was a fun experience."
- Eileen McDougal, Teacher, Northville Elementary School, New Milford, CT
