Testimonial

"Having the opportunity to work with AFLCT has been truly beneficial; they've provided unique experiences that have positively impacted our students. Their professional artists are strong role-models who encouraged students to take risks, find their voices, and be confident young people. They assisted in the process of inspiring our students to discover their individual identities and be able to self-assuredly express and share their ideas and opinions."

Description

Teaching artists work with classroom teachers to identify curricular needs and then develop a residency using theatre and arts integration that often combines different areas of learning. All subject areas are welcome, from STEM, Language Arts/Literacy, Social Studies, Social/Emotional learning, and more. Typical art mediums include but are not limited to shadow and over-life sized puppetry, mask, visual art, Shakespeare, song, improv, and movement.

Flock Theatre artists' energy is contagious and flexibility admirable. They will delight students of all ages.

Objectives

-Teach curriculum topics through the arts to achieve strong engagement and retention.
-Give teachers creative teaching tools to further their own practice.
-Provide an example of strong art practice to implement, rather than just crafts.

Participants

Number of classes and class size can vary depending on the program. We are only limited by the number of teaching artists we have (3). Typically class sizes are 15-22 students.

Technical Specifications

Tech specs are program specific and will change with the style of art components. For larger projects, such as shadow puppet residencies, at least one dedicated classroom with little or curtained outside windows for rehearsal and a large gathering space for performance is needed.
