Testimonial

"Having the opportunity to work with AFLCT has been truly beneficial; they've provided unique experiences that have positively impacted our students. Their professional artists are strong role-models who encouraged students to take risks, find their voices, and be confident young people. They assisted in the process of inspiring our students to discover their individual identities and be able to self-assuredly express and share their ideas and opinions."

Description

The students will create butterfly & pollinator puppets during each session together. We will find out why butterflies, dragonflies, flies, ladybugs, hummingbirds and bees are so important to the earth on which we stand everyday. How do they help our food grow? Why do we need these creatures when flowers are in bloom in CT? Where do they live and what do they eat to survive?

The program can be 1-10 days depending on how in depth we get on each pollinator and related topics such as life cycles, habitat and plant life.

Objectives

Students learn through the creative process and playtime allowing them to understand important concepts about our environment and put them to action in an informed yet imaginative way!

The puppets open up the possibility for all learners at different levels to come to one place by learning a fun new skill together.

Socialization naturally happens here through the puppets and can therefore open up children who might be less likely to participate, bringing everyone together.

Pricing Information

$370 for 2 classes
$735 for 4 classes

Program Length

45 minutes for each session (15 minutes is strongly suggested for puppetry play after making the puppets either on the playground or in an open space in the classroom like the rug area)

There are 6 pollinators that we can make puppets for so we can focus on one, a few or all depending on the length of the residency. I strongly suggest allowing for puppetry playtime for at least 15 minutes after the children make their puppets daily in order for them to fully inhabit the information as I share stories that relate to the importance of the 'characters' in our world. The children naturally want to put the stories to action.

Total: 1-10 sessions (depending on how many pollinators you would like to focus on)

Participants

Suggested: up to 15 students per classroom each session.
