Testimonial
"Having the opportunity to work with AFLCT has been truly beneficial; they've provided unique experiences that have positively impacted our students. Their professional artists are strong role-models who encouraged students to take risks, find their voices, and be confident young people. They assisted in the process of inspiring our students to discover their individual identities and be able to self-assuredly express and share their ideas and opinions."
Description
CT Shadow History plays are rehearsed and performed by full classes of students. The plays were written by elementary school teachers with grade-level appropriate vocab and all puppets are pre-built by Flock Theatre artists. Students learn local CT legends/history as they rehearse and perform behind giant shadow screens. An optional fluency study, where low-level readers are placed in narrator roles, is possible with this residency. Our studies have shown that low-level readers greatly improve their fluency scores over the course of the residency as they make the connection between the written word and the shadow images.
