Testimonial

Having the opportunity to work with AFLCT has been truly beneficial; they've provided unique experiences that have positively impacted our students. Their professional artists are strong role-models who encouraged students to take risks, find their voices, and be confident young people. They assisted in the process of inspiring our students to discover their individual identities and be able to self-assuredly express and share their ideas and opinions.

Description

Embark on an engaging journey of self-expression and emotional intelligence in “Comedy Expression: discovering the truth in comedy and story telling.” Students in this workshop will explore the power of stand-up comedy and storytelling as avenues to
express their feelings in a public speaking format. Encouraged to articulate gripes, pet peeves, grievances, or raw emotions about school subjects or daily life, participants will find a unique space for authentic self-expression. This empowering approach enables students to speak truth to power in a manner not always encouraged in traditional settings. Through the cathartic process of comedic storytelling, students build self-awareness, confidence, and a sense of commonality among peers.

Objectives

• Speak truth to power by expressing thoughts and emotions through stand-up comedy and storytelling.
• Develop self-awareness by using emotions as a tool to explore personal feelings on various topics.
• Build confidence through cathartic communication of thoughts and ideas with peers and teachers.
• Utilize the writing prompt of discussing dislikes to encourage sharing real-life issues in a comedic voice.

storytelling, fostering authentic public speaking.
