Testimonial

Having the opportunity to work with AFLCT has been truly beneficial; they've provided unique experiences that have positively impacted our students. Their professional artists are strong role-models who encouraged students to take risks, find their voices, and be confident young people. They assisted in the process of inspiring our students to discover their individual identities and be able to self-assuredly express and share their ideas and opinions.

Description

Performance -
This a 45 minute Solo Performance featuring Afoxé, Forró, and Samba. All three are cultural dances of Brazil. Students will have the opportunity to participate throughout the presentation and experience the dances themselves as well learn about Brazil’s geography, history and language. They will also learn about Brazilian traditions like Carnival (Carnaval in Portuguese), which will be the finale of my performance with everyone’s participation.

Workshop -
Single workshop (45-60min) where students will learn one or more styles of Brazilian dances through a pattern of movements accompanied by Brazilian music, often ending in one or more choreographies. During the workshop they will also learn about Brazilian culture, history and language.

Residency -
A series of workshops with classes 45-60min each. In this residency, the students will have more time to learn different dance styles from Brazil and prepare them to perform the dances for the school, families, or community.

Objectives

-Introduce students to various Brazilian dance styles and traditions to foster engagement, appreciation for diversity, and cultural understanding.

-Enhance students' coordination, muscle strength, flexibility, and endurance through learning and practicing dance movements.

-Improve students' body control and performance abilities by mastering dance patterns, contributing to better rhythm, cognitive function, and self-esteem.

-Use dance as an expressive art form to help students focus, reduce distractions, and clear mental clutter.
