Testimonial

"It was an honor and a privilege to work with Anthony DePoto in my 6th grade classroom this year. From day one he engaged my classes with his charm and wit. His ability to bring our social studies curriculum alive with the craft of script writing and performance art was well beyond my expectations. I highly recommend his talents and look forward to the day when we can collaborate again. Bravo, Mr. DePoto!"

Michael Young - Ashford School, Ashford, CT

Description

The school or Anthony DePoto will choose a musical or non-musical play to produce at their school. The play chosen for the school can have curriculum connections and themes. Anthony will direct the play and work with teachers of that school and coordinate every theatrical aspect including costumes, sound, lighting, sets, props, and more. Anthony and his team will show students/performers the foundations of acting and what elements go into creating a play. Students will learn various forms of music, choreography, and history based on the play.

Objectives

The objective of having students/performers be a part of a play is to help them gain skills they will utilize not only in their academic careers but in life. Students/performers will learn how to put on a play/production as well as learn how to create characters, learn and sing music, dance, and enhance reading comprehension. Another objective of being involved in a play/production is that students will learn how to collaborate and work as an ensemble. Creating theatre is all about working together and making art appear on stage.

Program Length

The length of each class session ranges from 60-90 minutes a day. Based on the size of the cast and the length of the show, most plays can be directed and produced over a span of two and half to three months-this is based on having two or three 60-90 minutes sessions per week for two and half to three months. Rehearsals can be part of the school day or act as an after school activity/club.

Participants

The number of participants depends on the number of students/performers in the production. I have directed plays both musical and non-musical with as few as 5 and as many as 95 students/performers.
