Description

Discover the wonder of the Chinese written language through a musical and artistic exploration! Master musician Shaw Pong Liu introduces listeners to the violin and its Chinese cousin the erhu, then explores 3 Chinese characters through three steps: 1) performing a piece of music inspired by the character, which the audience is invited to draw in response to; 2) introducing the visual history of the character from ancient bone carvings to modern Chinese character; 3) teaching the audience how to write the Chinese character. *A recommended follow-up to Liu's Exploring China program*

Objectives

-Make creative connections between aural music experience, and creative drawing
-Learn the fascinating connection between ancient drawings and modern Chinese characters
-Learn how to write 3 Chinese characters
-Experience a community of art-making and be energized and inspired by other's drawings
-Have a physical set of 3 drawings and 3 Chinese characters to take-home and remember the experience and the learning
