Testimonial

"Having the opportunity to work with AFLCT has been truly beneficial; they've provided unique experiences that have positively impacted our students. Their professional artists are strong role-models who encouraged students to take risks, find their voices, and be confident young people. They assisted in the process of inspiring our students to discover their individual identities and be able to self-assuredly express and share their ideas and opinions."

Description

Develop your students’ literacy, narrative writing skills, and social-emotional awareness
through a creative writing project guided by nationally acclaimed storyteller Motoko. Each student writes an original fiction, using multicultural myths and folktales as models.
Multi-day residencies and PD workshops are also available.

Objectives

-Students gain knowledge of the narrative structure of folktales, and apply it to their own writing of imagined experiences by using well-defined characters, clear event sequences, meaningful dialogue, and descriptive details.

-Students demonstrate understanding of the cultural role of folktales as a vehicle for teaching morals and lessons.

-By writing original folktale-type stories students express their own feelings and thoughts safely through fictional characters, and explore ideas and values that help them become responsible citizens of their community.
