Description

Dia De Los Muertos:
Students will learn about the unique Mexican celebration of The Day of the Dead, when it is believed that the departed return to earth to visit their loved ones and participate in celebrating their former lives.

Chinese New Year:
Students create artwork to celebrate one of China's most important holidays- the Lunar New Year. Traditionally, this is a time to honor ancestors and deities, sweep out the old year and make way for incoming good luck and the New Year! Each year is symbolized by a different animal. 2024 is the year of the Green Dragon!

St. Patrick's Day:
Honor the patron saint of Ireland and celebrate the heritage and culture of Ireland.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day:
Celebrate Dr. King with this arts workshop exploring themes of peace, leadership, and the history of the Civil Rights Movement and Black Americans.

Cinco De Mayo:
Celebrate Mexican independence by creating animal art inspired by Mexican crafts.

Independence Day and Flag Day:
Celebrate the USA's Independence through the creation of American themed crafts.

Additional visual arts workshops are available to be tailed for the following holidays:
Memorial Day, Labor Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentines Day, Thanksgiving, Daylight Savings/Winter Solstice. and more!

Susan Striker will bring all materials and see that area is completely cleaned at the end of the workshop.

Objectives

1. Students will participate in a dramatic reading of a story about a child who adjusts to the death of her beloved uncle through Day of the Dead traditions. Through this story, they will understand something about this unique celebration of the lives of departed loved ones.

2. Students will view multiple original examples and photographs of Day of the Dead art.

3. Students will create a ceramic skull in the style of Oaxaca, Mexico

$480 for a single workshop
$765 for back to back workshops

There is an additional $2.00 per child materials fee.
