Description

An art and life skills workshop that deals directly with life’s constant changes through creative writing and visual arts. The life cycle of a butterfly is the inspiration behind the curriculum. Learning to adapt to change creatively and courageously is the mission.

In an ever-changing environment, it is important to learn how to navigate. The purpose of this workshop is to guide students through the process of creative expression, helping them to identify what works best for them—it is meant to give them creative life skills to walk away with.

Objectives

Students will learn and practice:

-Creative writing and attention to detail
-Connection and problem solving through research, storytelling & group discussion
-Collaboration through teamwork activities and assignments
-Diversity through a group project that will celebrate individuality, unity and differences
-Conceptual design through references and sketching
-Critical thinking through mapping their final projects working with mixed-media

Technical Specifications

• Set Up: 30 minutes of set up time prior to program start
• Break: 5 minutes
• Strike: 30 minutes for clean up and load out

• Program Space: Open floor plan, desks or tables for work surface is ideal. Enough to accommodate all participants. Access to water for rinse water.
• Electricity/Wi-Fi: Access to Wifi is helpful but not necessary
• Audiovisual/Tech: Access to a projector, screen and computer is helpful but not necessary.
• Tables/Chairs: Yes, enough for all participants
• Outside Possible: I could but some challenges might arise with the elements.
• Mobility/Location Needs: I usually transport my materials in a wagon so a first level space, ramp or elevator is appreciated. If none of the above are possible, I may need assistance transporting materials.
