Testimonial

"The online program was fantastic. Your videos were very professional. The kids loved all the sessions and are still coming to our Google Meets with their Oni masks and Samurai hats! Thank you again Motoko! You are always such a class act and thoroughly enjoyable!"

-3rd Grade Team, Charlton Heights Elementary School, Ballston Lake NY

Description

Geometry comes alive with fun origami and engaging stories! Parents’ Choice Award-winner Motoko will use age-appropriate origami projects as a tool to develop students’ focus, imagination, and skills in spatial reasoning. Following her step-by-step instructions, students will create 2- and 3-dimensional objects; identify geometric features (such as angles, lines, and symmetry); and figure out areas and volumes while producing pieces of art. Multi-day residencies and PD workshops are also available.

Objectives

-Students will advance their knowledge of geometry and skills in spatial reasoning by creating 2- and 3-dimensional origami objects, analyzing their geometrical attributes, and solving mathematical problems.
-Students will experience origami both as a fun and imaginative art form, and as a modern practice with mathematical applications, and understand how art and science are interconnected.
-By working individually, in pairs, and in small groups, students will help and encourage one another, acquire patience and a positive attitude toward challenges, and nurture among themselves a culture of kindness.
