Testimonial
"Having the opportunity to work with AFLCT has been truly beneficial; they've provided unique experiences that have positively impacted our students. Their professional artists are strong role-models who encouraged students to take risks, find their voices, and be confident young people. They assisted in the process of inspiring our students to discover their individual identities and be able to self-assuredly express and share their ideas and opinions."
Description
An in-depth, hands-on class in the fine art of marionette manipulation, led by our award-winning master puppeteers. Workshop participants will be provided with handcrafted marionettes for the duration of the workshop. Each puppet has been balanced and tuned like a fine instrument, so that participants will experience firsthand what it is like to work a professional-quality marionette. The marionettes are short-strung to allow the participants to work them at floor-level.
Objectives
• to give an overview of marionette stringing and construction, with an emphasis on the different types of joints typically found on a human marionette
• to teach participants the basics of marionette manipulation through the experience of working with a professional-quality marionette
• to encourage partipants to carefully observe real-world movement, and to translate those observations into puppet movement
• to move beyond facial expression to explore the body language of emotions, and to translate those observations into puppet movement
• to spark an interest in puppetry and puppet-making as avenues for creative expression
