Testimonial

"Thank you so much for coming to our school. You are not only talented actors, but effective teachers as well! Our students very much enjoyed the workshops and the show. They learned a great deal about how people impact the earth, but as a bonus, you made us all feel an emotional connection to the animal characters that were affected by pollution. I’m asking out PTA Cultural Arts Committee to book you again for next year!"

Description

Three environmental plays and musicals are available for performances as well as workshop and residency formats. In repertoire: The Ghost Net: An Environmental Musical of the Sea provides a powerful vehicle for promoting awareness of our planet’s rapidly depleting oceans and endangered marine life. Since 1990 the show has toured the United States, receiving rave reviews for its beautiful artistry and timely message.
Clean-Green Energy Show: The Amp-ire Strikes Back! Lead by Sage the Energy Mage, the audience learns how to identify sources for wasted energy, and thus vanquish the ""vampires."" From the Rainforest to the Arctic: A Play

Objectives

Main Objective: To expose students to timely environmental issues through participatory theater.

Two: To inspire our audiences to become stewards of the earth and learn how to reduce our carbon footprint as individuals and as humans.

Three: To fully involve our participants through the careful art of time- tested audience participation. Our main goal is to get our audience and workshop participants fully and actively engaged through movement, song, rhythm, dramatic chants and spontaneous improvisation

Program Length

The Ghost Net: An Environmental Musical of The Sea is 60-70 minutes (depending upon if we include a whole school participating in pre-performance workshops)

The Clean-Green Energy Show: The Amp-ire Strikes Back is a 50 minute performance with additional optional workshops and vampire hunt through the facility that vary in duration.

From The Rainforest to the Arctic: A Play (entails an in-school or after school residency with student performers directed by Leslie Elias)

Participants

Number of Participants: We perform these repertoire of environmental shows for small groups (individual classrooms) all the way up and including full school auditoriums up to 550 children for both elementary and middle. NOTE: As in all Gryphon shows, we enjoy combining an individual performance with pre-performance workshops preceding the show.

As an alternative to Grumbling Gryphons troupe performing one of our environmental plays, Leslie Elias also directs individual classrooms in hour long workshops up to full length residencies where the students embody various character roles in the environmental plays.

Technical Specifications

Tech: We provide our own wireless sound system if it is in a gym or auditorium. Please provide one standing mike for whomever introduces us. We just need a power source, two tables to lay our props and costumes on and one additional table for display materials. We appreciate a flatbed cart for us to load our sound system on & to carry our props & masks. If we are performing on a stage, we ideally like one set of risers or middle stairs and cones to demarcate an aisle for seating.
