Testimonial

Having the opportunity to work with AFLCT has been truly beneficial; they've provided unique experiences that have positively impacted our students. Their professional artists are strong role-models who encouraged students to take risks, find their voices, and be confident young people. They assisted in the process of inspiring our students to discover their individual identities and be able to self-assuredly express and share their ideas and opinions.

Description

Learn social and emotional skills through a fun dance class! This program will teach various social and emotional skills through dance/creative movement. Each class will begin with reading and discussing a children’s book with a SEL topic such as confidence, friendship, teamwork, expressing emotions, etc, followed by a dance class that incorporates this topic. If the theme of the day is expressing emotions for example, the dance class will teach students various outlets to express their emotions in a healthy way and will give students the opportunity to act out different emotions through their dancing. Students will dance with fun, creative props! Books we will read include The Boy with Big, Big Feelings By Britney Winn Lee, May All People and Pigs Be Happy by Micki Fine Pavlicek, What Were You Thinking by Brian Smith, That Fruit is Mine by Anuska Allepuz, and Brave Dave by Giles Andrea. If desired, the topic of the day may be chosen in advance in collaboration with school/classroom teacher to best fit needs of students!
