Testimonial

"SYREN’s work is the epitome of why it is crucial for society to examine STEM-related issues through an artistic lens and the beautiful end results that come from fusing together art and science. The audiences remain riveted and intellectually stimulated the entire time the incredible ensemble commands the stage. I think their work is groundbreaking and revolutionary for audiences of all ages-something not many can accomplish.” James Monroe, Producer of Adult Programs, Museum of Science, Boston

Description

Science in Motion (SIM) is an interactive dance program designed to enhance topics taught in the Next
Generation Science Standards for today’s middle and high school students. SIM cultivates a classroom
spirit of curiosity, conversation, and collaboration while giving students a guided opportunity to
physically explore scientific theories specifically related to time.

Objectives

SIM will be a workshop where every body and ability to dance will be welcome and encouraged. Students will work on their coordination, balance, memorization, rhythm, and general etiquette for a dance based classroom. Students will experience opportunities to make personal artistic choices and expression, engage muscle memory, and nonverbal expression. Students will be guided in having a visceral response to the scientific theories during which they may begin connecting their own personal experiences with the theories.
