Testimonial

"Monica’s Spider and Pumpkin tales captivated our K-3 students. Monica used age appropriate and unique stories, bringing them to life with emotion, imagery, rich vocabulary, and movement."

Sallie Schwartz
Lyme Consolidated PTO

Description

Storyteller and educator Monica Peterson weaves tales of autumn and spring from around the world. Audience members will join her in:
- a quest to help a group of animal friends bring a change of seasons to the world (after which students will build their own star clocks)
- outwitting a gigantic and ornery pumpkin (while making connections to the pumpkin life cycle and formation of the solar system)
- laughing at the antics of Anansi the Spider (in a myth about the origin of spiders' tiny waists)
- saving farm animals from a tricky fox

Objectives

A multicultural celebration of autumn and spring (and a great follow-up to science units on seasons, farms, plants/pumpkins and spiders), these stories introduce young children to important scientific concepts while helping them to work through important character questions of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
