Testimonial

"Francine has offered several interactive musical and theatrical programs to children at the library. In my 32 years as a children’s librarian, I have worked with many performers, and I can honestly say that Francine ranks among the very best. She is a talented singer, song-writer and actress but most importantly a gifted teacher. I highly recommend the programs offered by Francine and the staff of Ben’s Lighthouse."
-Alana Bennison, Children’s Librarian at C.H. Booth Library in Newtown, CT

Description

The Isle of Skoo puppet show is an interactive program that incorporates social emotional themes through story telling, puppetry, music, movement, and audience participation. The program teaches children self-awareness and coping skills while having fun. The stories told include the themes of inclusion, bullying, making friends and dealing with emotions that are sometimes difficult to identify or handle (like anxiety or anger). The students are spoken to as “lighthouse keepers” and find purpose in the job of helping others, being kind to one another and understanding the metaphor of shining your light.

Objectives

To demonstrate to children how to recognize their emotions and teach skills to cope with their changing emotions.

To help children understand the importance of kindness, helping others and inclusion.

To help children find their unique ability to share their own light; as the symbol of light reflects our ability to find self confidence, self awareness, love for one another, with compassion and empathy for others.
