Testimonial

"Francine has offered several interactive musical and theatrical programs to children at the library. In my 32 years as a children’s librarian, I have worked with many performers, and I can honestly say that Francine ranks among the very best. She is a talented singer, song-writer and actress but most importantly a gifted teacher. I highly recommend the programs offered by Francine and the staff of Ben’s Lighthouse."
-Alana Bennison, Children’s Librarian at C.H. Booth Library in Newtown, CT

Description

The Isle of Skoo classroom/library format allows for a smaller environment with a closer interaction between the host/teaching artist, the Puppet Lighthouse Keeper Skoo and the students. If the Skoo program is available in an after-school residency format, we will bring four or five different scripts/themes for the week (An after-school residency program can also allow for a big group of kids to participate in the program with a different theme each day.) This format can also be a single day program where the Skoo artists repeat the same half hour program for students throughout different classroom periods where students come to the classroom throughout the day.

The host/teaching artist asks the students to sing, dance, listen, solve problems or participate in arts and crafts following the theme of the day, which range from painting feelings or contextual emotional description and display to writing positive thoughts with the help of the two teaching artists.

Objectives

The objectives of the program are to teach children how to identify their emotions, develop coping strategies and have empathy for others through themes of inclusion, making friends, using kind language, accepting others’ differences, recognition and strategies to counter bullying, and anxiety to name a few.
