Description
Leslie Elias and co-founder Vanessa Roe have adapted this ancient Greek myth into a highly imaginative and entertaining show for elementary, middle school students and family audiences. Live music, fantastic masks, costumes, and scenery bring to life this fascinating tale of how the seasons came to be. Audience participation is an essential ingredient in all Grumbling Gryphons productions. During the show, the audience becomes the Greek Chorus, chanting, singing and participating throughout the show. The traditional Greek masks were made by Robert Flanagan, designer for The Muppets and Saturday Night Live with additional masks, scenery and costumes by Ellen Moon.
Objectives
One: To fully involve our participants through the careful art of time- tested audience participation. Our main goal is to get our audience and workshop participants fully and actively engaged through movement, song, rhythm, dramatic chants and spontaneous improvisation.
Two: To expose students to Greek mythology, Greek language and music through participatory storytelling.
Three: To improve on literacy skills through student's engagement in learning new vocabulary, words, phrases and songs from the Greek culture as well as learning and incorporating sign language.
Four: To awaken curiosity, interest and appreciation in expanding their world view.

Note: We offer pre-performance workshops for K-8 where children become different parts of the Greek Chorus performing in the show with our troupe. These workshops range in time between 35 minutes to one hour and 20 minutes
Alternatively: If Leslie Elias is directing a classroom group to re-enact the myth, she needs a minimum of 50 minutes and can take as long as two hours, depending on desire and need of the school or venue.

Participants
Number of Participants: We perform this show for small groups (individual classrooms) all the way to full school auditoriums up to 550 children for both elementary and middle. NOTE: As in all Gryphon shows, we enjoy combining an individual performance with pre-performance workshops preceding the show.
As an alternative to Grumbling Gryphons troupe performing the show, Leslie Elias also directs individual classrooms in a 1-2-hour workshop where the students embody all of the character roles as well as the Greek Chorus. See the workshop category.

Technical Specifications
• Program Space: If we are performing on a stage, we ideally like one set of risers or middle stairs and cones to demarcate an aisle for seating.
• Electricity/Wi-Fi: 1 power source
• Audiovisual/Tech: We provide our own wireless sound system if it is in a gym or auditorium. Please provide one standing mike for whomever introduces us.
• Tables/Chairs: 2 tables to lay our props and costumes on and 1 additional table for display materials
• Mobility/Location Needs: We appreciate a flatbed cart for us to load our sound system on & to carry our props & masks.
