Testimonial

"Having the opportunity to work with AFLCT has been truly beneficial; they've provided unique experiences that have positively impacted our students. Their professional artists are strong role-models who encouraged students to take risks, find their voices, and be confident young people. They assisted in the process of inspiring our students to discover their individual identities and be able to self-assuredly express and share their ideas and opinions."

Description

What is a collection? Why do people collect? Where do we find collections?
What happens when multiples of things come together to make a work of art?

This workshop: "The Sorting Table: A Collections Art Project," invites participants to create new collections and make a work of art from multiples.

To start, participants go to tables "set" with objects ranging in form, function, and material. The directive for each group is to: re-sort the items & make a new collection. Each group shares its new collection/story.

Following the share, participants create a collaborative "multiples" paper sculpture using basic school supplies.

Objectives

This workshop offers "critical thinking and collections (identification) as an artistic pedagogy."

"Art-making" and "art looking" are about making choices, decisions and judgments.
