Description

WORLD FOLKTALES: The world's oldest literary genre, folktales engage and delight students of all ages. Tom Lee presents a wide array of stories, all sensitively researched and performed for students in grades K-8. Tom chooses stories from his that are appropriate for each audience. He also works with teachers to present stories that support curricula in Language Arts and Social Studies.

Objectives

1. Students are introduced to the nature of folktales as literary traditions from cultures around the world. The fact that these stories were typically created and sustained by people who did not learn to read or write will be stressed.

2. Students will understand the essential structure of storytelling, based on characters who make choices in response to challenges and obstacles.

3. Students will be think critically to the presentation and be encouraged to cite evidence from the story they heard to support their ideas and opinions.
