Testimonial
"Students reported feeling more connected to their peers, as they listened closely, appreciating the uniqueness of each individual’s story, while also finding common ground as human beings. They appreciated the focus on active listening and making connections, and experienced the event as a hopeful, safe, secure space to share openly with their peers... Your work matters, it is healing and transformative, and you all are the reason why it works." -Professor at College of the Holy Cross, MA
Description
HartBeat Ensemble's Youth Play Institute is an immersion into the realm of professional careers in theater. Young Adults work collaboratively to engage in community research around a pressing social justice topic and express their perspectives theatrically, through a political lens. They then learn acting or playwriting techniques, learn sound or light design, and even stage management or marketing to then run their own production about the research they collected. They also engage the audience in deeper discussions about the content as facilitators and activists, exploring how we as a community or individuals advocate for these issues pressing our community.
