Description

A Social-Emotional Learning Adventure through Movement, Music, and Culture

"Circle of Joy-Capoeira Kids" invites children into the colorful world of Capoeira, a joyful Brazilian art that blends dance, martial arts, rhythm, and play. In each class, children learn to move with expression and confidence while developing emotional awareness, cooperation, and creativity.

Through dynamic movement such as kicks, defensive movements, balance poses, and flowing transitions, students explore their bodies’ strength, coordination, and rhythm. Partner and group activities encourage trust, teamwork, and empathy as children learn to move safely and respectfully within the roda (circle).

Music is at the heart of every class. Children sing traditional Capoeira songs in Portuguese, clap rhythmic patterns, and will learn how to play authentic Brazilian instruments such as the berimbau (musical bow), atabaque (drum), and pandeiro (tambourine). These rhythms guide the movement and create a deep sense of connection and joy.

The history of Capoeira is rooted in a culture of overcoming challenging circumstances. Students will learn historical aspects of this artform as we move through the class.

Each session nurtures Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) through:
• Self-awareness: discovering emotions through creative movement and song.
• Self-management: developing focus, discipline, and respect through rhythmic practice.
• Social awareness: learning cultural respect and empathy for your community.
• Relationship skills: cooperating, listening, and taking turns in the circle.
• Responsible decision-making: exploring safe choices while expressing individuality.

Rooted in rhythm, respect, and culture, children will grow strong, confident, and connected in the "Circle of Joy" program.
