Testimonial

Having the opportunity to work with AFLCT has been truly beneficial; they've provided unique experiences that have positively impacted our students. Their professional artists are strong role-models who encouraged students to take risks, find their voices, and be confident young people. They assisted in the process of inspiring our students to discover their individual identities and be able to self-assuredly express and share their ideas and opinions.

Description

Inspire summer reading through storytelling! Dressed in costume and featuring puppets, drums, and other fun props, storyteller Monica Peterson presents a program of unique stories of spring and summer from around the world, sure to leave students wanting more. Audience participation - singing, dancing and speaking abound.

Students will:

* explore questions of empathy in a Japanese folktale involving a seedling
* dance with a village of animals in an African tale of bravery and community
* roar with laughter at the antics of a talkative turtle in a Guatemalan story
* and interact with other characters from European and Native American traditions

Stories can be tailored to library summer reading programs.

Objectives

Audiences will gain an appreciation of the folkloric traditions of many cultures. In addition, students will encounter new vocabulary and work through character questions of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
