Description

Storytelling & Puppet-Making Workshops:

This unique workshop begins with a tabletop storytelling piece told by master puppeteer Adelka utilizing assemblages of everyday & natural materials that are very familiar to all used in a quite new way through this whimsical art form that causes positive emotions to be stirred. The audience becomes a part of the story at moments by helping with sound effects and even playing certain characters with gentle yet encouraging guidance from Adelka. The storytelling typically takes around 30 minutes capturing the attention of all ages. Then we spend the final 45-60 minutes making our own puppets together in order to either have the participants retell the story or the most imaginative ones may even create their very own, allowing for student success, leadership and autonomy through decision-making in the creative process.

Stories currently available:

“The Rabbit & The Moon” from Cree Saskatchewan
“Leopard’s Drum” from West Africa
“The Musicians of Bremen” from Germany

Note: We are happy to potentially create a tabletop show around your particular theme, unit or event with proper notice and if our company schedule lines up for that new tabletop production.

Objectives

We maintain overwhelming focus and attention to the storytelling by the audience as they see pine cones, twigs and bark come to life through characters everyone adores as they are all forest creatures.

We encourage new character designs with the materials presented to the participants and offer inspiration through example characters to get everyone creating their very own puppet!

You will see students learn to talk as the characters, opening up conversations, connections between students and learning new language as they play with their puppets in order to retell the story in their own way.
