In this workshop or residency, students will explore Kathak, the art of storytelling through dance. They will learn Kathak's technical footwork, spins, and cross rhythms. Kathak combines intense footwork, spins, and improvisation to tell stories through dance. Students will watch a performance, participate in a folk dance, and engage in a Q&A to learn about India's culture. Inspired by Rube Goldberg, students build playful chain reactions to complete simple tasks. They explore cause and effect, force, and motion through creative trial and error. Design a custom zine cover, exploring creativity and recycling. Students start with a cover and can continue creating a full zine during a residency. Students explore Mexican culture through art projects like piñatas, paper flowers, or Ojo de Dios. Each session includes cultural context and hands-on creativity. In colorful attire, Ms. Luna performs dances from different Mexican regions and holidays. Students learn steps and cultural meaning while celebrating traditions. Ms. Luna leads dance and culture workshops tied to Mexican holidays like Day of the Dead and Children's Day. Students learn history, steps, and traditions through joyful movement. This workshop teaches breathing, meditation, and relaxation techniques to help youth manage stress, build self-awareness, and promote wellness in body, mind, and spirit. Inspired by the children's book Here and Now, students practice mindfulness by illustrating a present-moment scene. Students create mini scrapbooks using Polaroid photos and customizable materials like stickers and markers, blending creativity with personal reflection. This high-energy, play-based workshop uses Hoopla hoops to promote physical literacy and social-emotional learning. Travel through Latin America and Spain in this interactive music performance! With traditional instruments, hats, and rhythms, students explore Hispanic cultures through hands-on music-making. This program engages students with lifting their voices through action and planning. This multi-day residency deepens skills in movement and teamwork through daily creative challenges. Ends with a student-led showcase celebrating empathy, trust, and imagination. Students explore identity and culture by writing original “I Am From” poems, then create mixed-media collages using images, colors, and symbols to bring their words and personal histories to life. Poet and painter Shanna Melton shares powerful performances rooted in culture, love, and identity. Her shows may include her vibrant paintings as a backdrop. Take students on a multicultural musical journey through global songs, rhythm, dance, and creative leadership. This engaging program builds teamwork, communication, cultural awareness, and connects music to SEL, literacy, math, science, and more. Quill'n & Spill'n blends storytelling and social-emotional learning. Students write poems, narratives, and raps that foster empathy, expression, and self-awareness. Students explore the values and uniqueness of their communities, then create art out of recycled materials reflecting those discussions. Middle and high schoolers explore science concepts through dance, connecting movement to topics in the Next Generation Science Standards. | |
