Teaching Artist Legacy Statement

I believe that people engage, learn and retain curricula, when they participate in it. As a theater artist, I have developed dozens of strategies to help students mobilize, personify and act out the curriculum. They become part of it, gain ownership of it, and remember it. I do this in an organized fashion using structured games and plans that are designed specifically for each residency group. With so many lessons I wrote "Learning on their Feet, A Sourcebook for Kinesthetic Learning Across the Curriculum K-8". A glorious side effect: Working together promotes individual self-esteem and group cooperation.

Description

Let's act it out! Science is remarkably visual and interactive. We assign parts and act out concepts. promoting connection and cooperation. I design residencies to explore and enjoy curricula, in ways that engage all students. Examples: life cycles, tree parts, seasons, classification, senses, space, digestion, respiration, liquids and solids, sound, habitats, periodic table, fossils, and more!
