Teaching Artist Legacy Statement

I believe that people engage, learn and retain curricula, when they participate in it. As a theater artist, I have developed dozens of strategies to help students mobilize, personify and act out the curriculum. They become part of it, gain ownership of it, and remember it. I do this in an organized fashion using structured games and plans that are designed specifically for each residency group. With so many lessons I wrote "Learning on their Feet, A Sourcebook for Kinesthetic Learning Across the Curriculum K-8". A glorious side effect: Working together promotes individual self-esteem and group cooperation.

Description

People can act out anything. Using organized structured activities, students act out themes, characters, story arcs, grammar, predictions, vocabulary, verb choices and much more! We act out plays, monologues, dialogues and story parts. I design specific residencies to explore and enjoy curricula in ways that engage all students and promote cooperation. Teachers learn strategies for future use.
