Teaching Artist Legacy Statement

I am first and foremost an educator. My programs are based on one simple principle: KIDS LEARN by DOING, so in my interactive adventures it is the KIDS that are the stars of the show. And not just a FEW kids - Everyone has a role to play in which they feel successful and empowered. And have FUN. After many school arts enrichment programs, kids tell their parents, "Today I met a great artist." After my programs, kids say, "Today I WAS a great artist."

Description

My ComicCrafting program connects to SEL by incorporating the review and understanding of the perspectives and feelings of all of the characters in the story. Participants are encouraged to contemplate the viewpoints of people different than themselves by discussing and considering thoughts and motivations of every character we create and the reasons behind the behaviors we detail in the plot.
