Testimonial

Having the opportunity to work with AFLCT has been truly beneficial; they've provided unique experiences that have positively impacted our students. Their professional artists are strong role-models who encouraged students to take risks, find their voices, and be confident young people. They assisted in the process of inspiring our students to discover their individual identities and be able to self-assuredly express and share their ideas and opinions.

Description

I would share examples of how to take social issues that are of concern to the artist and integrate them into the artwork. I would use my training in the Six Principles of Nonviolence created by Dr. King to initiate conversation about social justice, injustice and how each individual is able to create change. We would follow this workshop up with art inspired by the principles presented and a short written paragraph where the students can explain their visual art response.

Objectives

- Gain an understanding of the 6 Principles of Nonviolence created by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
- Understanding that you can contribute a voice towards change using art.
- Developing the ability to articulate the vision and intention behind the artwork.
