Description

Participants will take away methods and ideas to lead children to:
Play joyously and safely on hand drums and small percussion instruments; Mirror short, repetitive, musical patterns with their voices and with their hands; Actively participate with peers, educators, professional providers, family members, and their community in a song-based, musical experience;
Focus during educational-play, and to experiment with musical instruments.
Artist provides instruments, and educators are encouraged to bring their own percussion and melodic instruments. They're welcome to bring an audio recorder. Handouts are given.

Objectives

The program objectives are to enable educators and professional providers to lead joyous, developmental, inclusive, equitable, and informative activities that give rise to students' confidence, esteem, self-regulation, and that provide experiences of socialization that:
-Instill students’ curiosity and eagerness for lifelong learning.
- Build students' motor skills;
- Prepare students for future participation in musical learning;
- Include and engage students with a diversity of demographics and heritage, and students that have cognitive, physical, and multiple challenges.

No prior musical experience is necessary.

Program Length

90-150 minutes

Participants

Unlimited number of participants per workshop. Two workshops per day are available. They can be held in any room.

Technical Specifications

Parking space; 45 minutes to check in, then load and set up the equipment; 30 minutes to strike and load out the equipment; armless chairs (number to be determined); Flip chart, nontoxic marker and easel; one line, 110V electricity.
