Testimonial
"The science and the nature writing went hand in hand, and all the students were engaged with the experience. With her creative writing background and enthusiasm for teaching, I could see why the students are drawn to her style. She was able to introduce the activities in a way that all the students understood. Her knowledge of poetry is amazing, and it was great to it unfold in my classroom."

Description
Throughout time nature has inspired artists, writers, and of course, environmental scientists. In this program, budding poets and scientists alike will practice close observation of nature and capture their perceptions in descriptive poetry. Leslie can lead this session either outside on the grounds of your school or right in your classroom with her intriguing collection of natural objects. This hands-on, interactive workshop engages even the most reluctant writers, leading to beautifully original poems, illustrations, and classroom poetry performances. Leslie is highly experienced in adapting this workshop to different age groups.
Objectives
In this program students will:
1) learn "writer's eye" techniques of close observation of nature;
2) create and share original poetry in their own voices;
3) use specific images and similes in writing.
