Testimonial
"Leslie Johnson's 'Animals and Habitats' program was amazing! My students chose animals from the rainforest, and with Leslie's help we acted out the habitat with sound effects, props, and movement. After that the students wrote vivid poetry about rainforest animals to exhibit their knowledge. Leslie guided them smoothly through the writing process with great teaching techniques to keep them motivated and excited to participate."

Description
“Poems for Science: Animals and Habitats” uses drama and creative writing activities to involve students in learning about animals and how they adapt to and survive in habitats. Leslie provides colorful, accessible research sources about animals and their habitats, along with graphic organizers and writing guides. Classroom activities include “Habitat Theater” using simple props and sound effects to bring to life different parts of a habitat (such as the rainforest or ocean). Students write expressive poetry that combines fun research facts with poetic techniques. Students then perform their poetry in an “active listening” game, sharing and learning from each other.
Objectives
In this program students will:
1) learn and communicate information about animals and how they survive in their habitats;
2) write expressively with sensory details and figurative language;
3) speak and actively listen to peers in the classroom.
