Description

“Poetry Alive!” with Leslie Johnson actively involves students in writing original poetry and performing it in the classroom with “poetry theater” techniques. "Poetry Alive!” workshops are designed with the “multiple intelligences” to engage students with diverse learning styles and to enliven the writing process. Leslie inspires, guides, and celebrates the joy of writing with students in this interactive experience. Each workshop includes lively warm-ups, creation of original poetry, and poetry performance in the classroom. All students are active participants in this poetry adventure! With proven success in schools throughout Connecticut, “Poetry Alive!” develops vital literacy skills and confidence.

Objectives

In this program, students will:
1) create and perform original poems in their own expressive voices;
2) understand and use literary devices in writing;
3) creatively develop a main idea with specific details.

Pricing Information

$590 full day

Program Length

This program is a one-hour workshop per classroom. It may be extended to a multi-day workshop if requested.

Participants

This workshop is presented to students in the classroom, up to 25 students per class and up to four classrooms per day.
