Testimonial

When Alana taught a 1st grade class at Conte West Hills School in May, after the class, a little 1st grade girl named Autumn went out of her way to hug her and say that she would miss her. This was a testament to how the lesson went!

Description

Students will be able to make a Zine cover for an imaginary zine of their creation! Zines are handmade magazines that are customized and artistic – they touch on subject matters of the creator's choice. Zines can be big or small in size and have a varying number of pages. There are many zines out in the world covering various topics such as cars, politics, fashion, and poetry. They can be about anything! Zines often use recycled materials such as old books or magazines, scrap paper, etc.

Students will also explore recycling and upcycling through this lesson. Students will create just a zine cover page for a workshop and work on a full zine (a cover page along with an actual story or subject/pages) for a residency.

Together, we'll create a beautiful custom cover or mini-zine to start your storytelling journey!

Objectives

-Students will use zine making to express their interests and tell personal stories through creative projects.

-Students will design and create a zine cover or mini-zine, showcasing their unique concepts and creativity.

-Students will enhance their research and recall skills by exploring topics such as favorite pop stars or historical figures for their zines.

-Students will engage in creative recycling by using recycled materials in their zine projects, integrating sustainability into their artistic process.
