Testimonial

"Leslie has the most wonderful way of working with children. Her ability to teach surpassed all expectations. She completely engaged my students, and I loved the way she encouraged their self-expression and confidence to share."

Veronica, LMS, West Hartford

Description

This program engages young students in playful learning that brings a picture book to life with the arts. Leslie draws on a variety of colorful picture books perfect for participants in early grades (Pre-K, K, 1, 2), providing a joyful experience that encourages a love of reading while developing early literacy skills.

Each workshop includes: an artful and inclusive warm-up game; a picture book experience, pausing on selected pages for fun interactions; a hands-on arts activity (depending on the book, this might involve classroom theater, visual arts, a simple craft, music, and/or movement); and a closing activity to reinforce the message of the picture book. Leslie's playful workshops are designed with the multiple intelligences and sensory exploration to bring words and pictures alive!

Through story and cooperative play, this program builds essential SEL skills in young students as well, encouraging self-awareness, empathy, and positive interactions with peers.

If desired, teachers can select a picture book in advance from a list of suggestions provided by Leslie or request a particular text, topic, or theme from their curriculum.
