Testimonial
Having the opportunity to work with AFLCT has been truly beneficial; they've provided unique experiences that have positively impacted our students. Their professional artists are strong role-models who encouraged students to take risks, find their voices, and be confident young people. They assisted in the process of inspiring our students to discover their individual identities and be able to self-assuredly express and share their ideas and opinions.
Description
All of the students explore curious, musical, items: Colorful drums, tactile "shaker" instruments, animal puppets, and voice "Toobaloos".
There are four "pods" within a room. Educators arrange four teams with two to six students in each. The teams are rotated to play with the collection in each pod. They are welcome to play with both hands, and to experiment with making new sounds:
1. DRUMS / Controlled volume, multiple types and sizes of drums and a variety of soft mallets. Students self-generate physical activities while creating a range of musical tones.
2. SHAKERS / There are multiple sizes, shapes, and "fill" materials that sound differently. With playful, bodily movements, students experience low and high, musical tones.
3. ANIMAL HAND PUPPETS / Playing energizes students' imagination and creativity. In addition to simulating animal movements and sounds, there is a
short, low-volume drum on the floor in the middle of the pod. It's wide enough for the students, individually and / or as a team, on which to dance the puppets and make deep sounds.
4. TOOBALOOS / An educational tool that easily enables each student to hear their own voice clearly and articulately.
In the drums, shakers, and animal puppet pods, the educators guide the students to trade the items several times with each other.
To provide an engaging atmosphere, sensory-friendly music is played as a steady background.
