Teaching Artist Legacy Statement

I believe that we are all dancers and that everyone can enjoy expressing themselves through bodily kinesthetic movement when it is done with intention and purpose. In my work we explore the basic dance elements of space, shape, time, effort, direction and together utilizing these dance tools we create our own dance studies. The power of shining our own lights happens organically when children of all ages are guided to express themselves in their own ways. Empowering everyone to feel great self confidence to move freely is what happens when we learn to move authentically with grace and control.

Testimonials

"L'Ana was simply wonderful! The teachers and I were blown away by how she was able to get some of our most apprehensive students up and participating, and she always acknowledged them in a supportive way for doing so. The final dance pieces the students created were really thought-provoking."

Description

Music and Movement go hand in hanmd and during all of my work a variety of music is used depending on the curricula tie-in. Often if we are "dancing a piece of literature" I will create a musical score so to speak, using a vareiety of music to fit the mood of the story as it progresses from beginning to end.
