Teaching Artist Legacy Statement

I believe that we are all dancers and that everyone can enjoy expressing themselves through bodily kinesthetic movement when it is done with intention and purpose. In my work we explore the basic dance elements of space, shape, time, effort, direction and together utilizing these dance tools we create our own dance studies. The power of shining our own lights happens organically when children of all ages are guided to express themselves in their own ways. Empowering everyone to feel great self confidence to move freely is what happens when we learn to move authentically with grace and control.

Testimonials

"L'Ana was simply wonderful! The teachers and I were blown away by how she was able to get some of our most apprehensive students up and participating, and she always acknowledged them in a supportive way for doing so. The final dance pieces the students created were really thought-provoking."

Description

Music is used to create a mood or to help inspire the movers to get ideas. So for instance if we were dancing the life cycle of a plant music appropriate to the way a plant grows and develops would be used to enhance the details odf their dance.
