In this workshop or residency, students will explore Kathak, the art of storytelling through dance. They will learn Kathak's technical footwork, spins, and cross rhythms. Kathak combines intense footwork, spins, and improvisation to tell stories through dance. Students will watch a performance, participate in a folk dance, and engage in a Q&A to learn about India's culture. Participants explore the profound symbolic meaning of drums across cultures and learn hand and finger techniques to create rhythmic dialogue. The workshop focuses on understanding the beat, rhythm, and tonal sounds of drums. Students engage in riddles, storytelling, creative writing, and audience participation while exploring the power of words, imagination, and self-expression. Students learn basic composition techniques and create original music, which is performed by a professional musician, fostering creative expression and music literacy. From leprechauns to Irish heroines, this engaging storytelling program brings Irish myths and history to life. With costumes, artifacts, and humor, Monica Peterson delights audiences of all ages with Irish tales. Anne Pasquale's Living History Programs Anne brings to life the stories of America's female immigrants through songs, tales, and personas, highlighting cultural diversity and common heritage across Liberty's crown. This residency explores the environmental impact of artificial light at night through visual arts. Students create artwork related to light pollution, explore storytelling, and present their findings. A performance blending music, math, and culture with influences from Harry Belafonte, Bob Marley, Calypso & Reggae. Includes audience participation and workshops teaching the making of Steel Drum instruments. Dance China NY/New York Chinese Cultural Center This program introduces beloved ancient Chinese folk art.
